Lakes Divide Classic ‘24 Report

Here lies a photographic portrayal of the inaugural Lakes Divide Classic. A 72km two-day social, supported trail run through the Lake District.

Under English Alps a convoy converged,
carry pencil and spork, like Beatrix, we urged.
Blue flags raised amidst packing kerfuffle;
the convoy strode out and broke in to a shuffle.

Catbells, Borrowdale and a riverside CP;
you won’t find these sandwiches at UTMB.
Spread out, and all in, the trail lurches uphill,
waffles are waiting past Old Dungeon Ghyll.

Shuffling into Langstrath, sarnies and swimming just head.

We don’t honour fast, we yearn for slower,
pace yourself kindly, drink the Passoa.
Bells ring aloud as our convoy makes camp;
an evening dined finely, by fire and lamp.

It’s futile to search Google for Penne Plage,
pasta from a master, portions large.
Undaunted by distance the pack remains merry,
a feat of two feet, with the help of a ferry.

Lakes Divide overnight camp, Langdale.

From a journey so far, great joy is derived;
A travail to remember (if the caps had arrived).
Our convoy is close knit, such spirit, much caper;
Lakeland divided, three stamps on paper.

Speak well of your legs that refused to falter -
it’s actually good fun, disguised as an ultra.
It takes a village and ours proved strong,
there’s trains home to catch. Now run along.

Runderbolts hit the finish. Lakeland Divided.

Lakes Divide Classic will run again in September 2025. If you’re ultra-curious, we’d love to host you.
